The Bourne Legacy is a 2012 American spy film directed by Tony Gilroy. The characters in the Bourne series are based on the novel Jason Bourne by Robert Ludlum. The Bourne Legacy is the fourth installment in this series. Starring Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, and Edward Norton.
The character Jason Bourne did not appear in The Bourne Legacy because actor Matt Damon, who played Bourne in the first three films, decided not to return for a fourth film. However, there are different images of Damon as Bourne shown throughout the film and his name is mentioned several times. Tony Gilroy, co-screenwriter of the first three films, seeks to continue the story of the Bourne franchise, not changing its milestones, and the other characters of The Bourne Legacy are similar to the previous one. it The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).
The sequel titled Super spy Jason Bourne was released in 2016, with Damon and Greengrass both returning to their old roles.
Bourne's universe, created by Robert Ludlum, expands with an original story that introduces a new hero (Jeremy Renner), in which life and death decisions were triggered by moments in the first three films.  In Bourne's Legacy, Renner joins newcomers to the series Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, while Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn, veterans of the franchise, return to their roles.
