Signs is a 2002 American science fiction and thriller film written, produced, and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It stars Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, and Abigail Breslin. It was released by Touchstone Pictures. Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) is a former Episcopal priest who has lost his faith after the death of his wife. The plot of the feature film starts when the protagonist finds Circles in the crops in his cornfield. As the film progresses, more circles are discovered in different parts of the world, a phenomenon coinciding with the appearance of strange lights in the sky. Graham gradually becomes convinced that the circles are the work of aliens, and he and his family have to prepare to survive the impending alien invasion. Although the plot revolves primarily around science fiction, producer Frank Marshall stated: It really is about human emotions set in motion by a supernatural event. [Citation needed]

M. Night Shyamalan began the script for Signs after finishing his previous film, Unbreakable (2000) [citation needed]. Filming of the feature film began on September 12, 2001. Most of the film's locations are in Pennsylvania, where the filming base was established. The film was released in the United States on August 2, 2002 and on September 13 in the United Kingdom, Signals grossed $ 408,247,917 at the worldwide box office, making it the seventh highest grossing film of 2002. It was designated with a PG-13 rating. in the United States for "some scary moments." Signs received positive reviews.

Signs synopsis

The Hess family lives on a farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) is a former Episcopal priest whose wife, Collen, died in a terrifying car accident caused by a veterinarian named Ray Reddy (M. Night Shyamalan). The accident caused Graham to lose his faith in God and renounce his priesthood, bitter and upset. He worries about his two motherless children, Morgan (Rory Culkin), who suffers from asthma, and Bo (Abigail Breslin), who has the rare habit of leaving unfinished glasses of water around the house, believing that they are 'contaminated'. Graham is aided by his younger brother Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix), a former minor league baseball player.

Mel Gibson as Father Graham Hess, a farmer and former Episcopal[7][8] priest. His wife Colleen died six months prior. He is Merrill's older brother and father to son Morgan and daughter Bo. Joaquin Phoenix as Merrill Hess, Graham's younger brother; Colleen's brother-in-law; and uncle of Morgan and Bo. He has been living with the family since Colleen's death; he is a former minor league baseball player. Rory Culkin as Morgan Hess, the son of Graham and Colleen Hess; older brother to sister Bo; and nephew to Merrill. Abigail Breslin as Bo Hess, the daughter of Graham and Colleen Hess; Morgan's younger sister; and niece to Merrill; she is the youngest of the Hess family. Cherry Jones as Caroline Paski, a local police officer and friend of the Hess family.


There isn't a single person on the planet who hasn't heard of this film. The cast also does an excellent job in their parts. Before you read this review and before I give you any spoilers about the plot, I strongly advise you to watch the film. It's nearly impossible not to like Signs. The plot is well-crafted, the pacing is excellent, and all of the performers provide outstanding performances. Because of how excellent it was, it film stands out in my mind. Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting it. I strongly advise everyone to watch this film; you will not be disappointed.
