In 1980, the Namiya General Store became popular with the people after its owner, Yūji Namiya, accepted a letter of advice from everyone seeking advice on whatever bothered them, similar to a painful aunt. When the store closes, people will drop their letters through a hole in the scroll door, collect them in mailboxes and receive a handwritten reply from Namiya in a carton of milk hanging outside.
In 2012, three thugs, Atsuya, Shota and Kohei, took refuge in the Namiya General Store abandoned after committing several minor crimes. Staying until morning, the boys' raid is mysteriously interrupted by a counseling letter released through the shutters, even though no one is outside. The letter is sent to the General Store and is traditionally written by someone to consult with concerns. When they read it, the boys realized it was written in 1980, 32 years ago.
