Death Note: Relight 2: L's Successors (デ lit. "Director's Cut Complete ending ~ Rewrite 2 L's Inheritance ~" ") is a sequel to Death Note Relight 1: Visions of a God. The OVA summarizes the Mello and Near parts of the series. Notably, this OVA contains much more original footage than its predecessor, presumably because the anime directors wanted more creative freedom in this particular.
The special was released on television in Japan on August 22, 2008, and on DVD in the United States on June 23, 2009.
The OVA begins with a short narration of the late L, who breaks through the fourth wall by revisiting what happened in the previous Relight special. The next scene depicts the familiar scene of Near and Mello upon learning of L's death and Mello claiming to set him free, followed by a scene four years after Near prepares to leave the Witch's House. This scene contains a flashback adapted in part from the Death Note One-Shot Special comic book chapter, in which L talks, without a voiceover, to the children of the orphanage before he investigates the case. Kira. Instead of commenting that he doesn't solve cases beyond justice, he calls himself a monster because of his tendency to lie. Before the scene ended, Near intuitively suspected Kira and the person currently playing L were one and the same much earlier than in the anime.

Before I begin, I want to say that i'm not basing this review on the movie itself, i'm basing it on what it did differently from the anime. The reason being that the two movies are identical to the anime itself and there are no drastic changes.
If you've watched Death Note you'd know it's a spectacular show, one of the best Anime's out there. The movies don't change that at all, if anything the movies further show how good the series is, as well as fixing some things for the better.
