Dating Amber is a coming-of-age film directed by David Freyne. The tragic comedy, in which two young people pretend a relationship to their fellow human beings, in order not to fuel speculation about their homosexuality, was released as video-on-demand in the USA in November 2020.
In the mid 1990s in a small town in Ireland. Eddie is a very introverted boy, and although he is not at all like his father, who works in the military, nor has his physical qualifications, he dreams of following in his footsteps. He goes to the same school as Amber, who is a huge fan of The Clash and would rather move to London today than tomorrow. Both Eddie and Amber are not attracted to the opposite sex.
In order not to fuel speculation about their homosexuality at school and in the family, both of them get together one day and pretend to be a relationship with others.
