I didn't hear a word about this 2020 film titled "Almost Human" from director Nan Zhang before sitting down and watching it. And I have to admit that given the relatively low score for which the movie ranks on IMDb, I was a little hesitant to sit down and watch it. But I still do that, because I enjoy watching movies that I have never seen.
Personally I like "Almost human". Sure, the plot is so general and straightforward that the events in the movie are foreseeable, and the ending in the end credits is just brutally pointless, but the movie is still really interesting and entertaining. To me. I like the plot.
The special effects in the movie are, for the most part, great. The effects on the robot are very good and I really like that. CGI as she runs and jumps around, well, let's say not too good. And the things they add to the Chinese city landscape to make it as present as the future, just don't really do it.
They've got a good cast to show in the movie, and I would say that the actors have certainly brought the movie a long way with their individual and combined efforts.
I see "ALMOST human" as a real breath of fresh air into the sci-fi style that specifically revolves around robots and their impact on society and human life. So I was entertained by what the writer and director conveyed.
My rating for "Almost human" is six out of ten. I found it a pleasant surprise, and it's definitely worth a look. And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't usually watch a lot of science fiction movies.
